About the event
In 1906, a vast underground cavern was found in the foothills near Auburn. Over 400 bones and fossils were found there, including those of Mastodons, Giant Ground Sloths, and the skeletal remains of four humans, estimated to be at least 10,000 years old.
Also found was evidence of something far more terrifying...
Then, just a few years ago, without explanation, the cave was sealed to prevent anyone from learning the dark secrets contained within.
This year, while working on a new Drive-Through Mining Exhibit at the Fairgrounds, workers uncovered an entrance to an abandoned mineshaft, leading to a similar cave system stretching for miles underground. Are they connected in some way? What unseen terrors are lurking in the depths of these caverns?
Come to the Gold Country Fairgrounds and learn about the secret history of this area, and discover the mysteries that were buried alive during the events we now call Mineshaft Mayhem!
